Barrie East End Kitchen Transformation: From Dated to Open-Concept This project in the East End of Barrie, Ontario, showcases how a dark, closed-off kitchen can be transformed into a bright, functional, and modern entertaining space designed for a busy family. The Challenge: A Cramped and Outdated 1980s Layout The original kitchen was heavily constrained by unnecessary bulkheads and a dividing wall, making the main living area feel small and disconnected. The existing wood kitchen and a mix of outdated tile and hardwood flooring further contributed to a dated aesthetic and inefficient workflow. The primary goal was to completely open the space, modernizing it for contemporary living and maximizing natural light. Our Solution & Craftsmanship: A Bright, Modern Shaker Kitchen We executed a comprehensive main-floor renovation, beginning with the strategic removal of non-load-bearing walls and all existing bulkheads to create a vast, open-concept area. This required extensive plumbing work to reroute lines seamlessly.
Flooring: New, durable Vinyl Plank flooring from Antrim Flooringwas installed consistently throughout the main level, providing a cohesive and waterproof foundation that unified the entire space.
Cabinetry: We installed a custom-designed, painted white shaker door kitchen. Our standard 3/4" plywood box construction and wooden dovetail drawers were used, showcasing our commitment to high-durability craftsmanship that exceeds industry standards.
Countertops & Island: The centerpiece of the kitchen is a stunning Calacatta Quartz countertop and a dramatic waterfall island. This choice of material offers both luxury aesthetic appeal and easy maintenance.
Lighting & Hardware: To enhance functionality and ambiance, we partnered with Spring Valley Electric for all electrical needs, including detailed crown molding, light valance, and integrated undercabinet lighting.
Finishing Touches: Custom-sized handles from Marathon Hardware were used to provide a tailored look that complements the shaker doors, along with a classic tile backsplash. The entire main area was professionally painted to complete the bright, modern aesthetic.
